Gravel and cross tires may be similar but are not necessarily the same. Cyclocross is a racing sport and although there are different types of cross tires designed for different conditions they are all designed for performance in cross. Gravel tires come in a variety of treads and widths designed mainly for road performance with some off road traction built in, or a tires that can perform well on gravel but still be used on the road. It is important to choose the correct tire for the conditions you will mainly be riding in, as well as considering how much puncture resistance you will need.
